Ramadan with kids in the UAE: routines that actually work
29 September 2026 · 4 min read · by the MamaMind team
Ramadan brings shorter school days, later evenings and a whole new rhythm to family life. A little planning keeps everyone rested and happy.
When is Ramadan 2027?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around Monday 8 February 2027 and last 29 or 30 days, with Eid Al Fitr expected around 8 March. Exact dates depend on the moon sighting and are confirmed just before.
School during Ramadan
UAE schools usually shorten the school day by around two hours during Ramadan. Each school announces its own timings - often only a week or two ahead - so watch for the message from your school.
Routines that help
- Protect sleep. Late iftars and suhoor can wreck bedtimes. Keep a consistent (even if later) bedtime for younger children and a wind-down routine.
- Plan the afternoon gap. Shorter school days mean earlier pick-ups - line up pick-up rotas, activities or quiet time early.
- Fasting children: older children practising fasting need a balanced suhoor, plenty of water between iftar and suhoor, and permission to stop if they feel unwell. Talk to your doctor if your child has a health condition.
- Keep them involved. Charity jars, decorating, helping prepare iftar and learning the meaning behind Ramadan make it special for kids.
- Share the load. Iftar invitations, school changes and Eid preparations pile up - share lists and plans with your partner and helper.
