How to renew your child's Emirates ID (step by step)
29 September 2026 · 4 min read · by the MamaMind team
A child's Emirates ID usually expires at the same time as their residence visa, and it's easy to forget until you need it - at the doctor's, the school office or the airport. Here's how renewal works for residents.
Before you start
- Your child's residence visa must be valid (or being renewed at the same time) - the Emirates ID is linked to it.
- You'll apply as the parent or guardian, using your own UAE Pass or ICP account.
What you'll need
- Your child's passport and current Emirates ID details
- A recent passport-style photo of your child (white background)
- Your own Emirates ID as the parent / sponsor
- For some applications, the child's birth certificate (attested and translated if it wasn't issued in the UAE)
Fingerprints: children under 15 don't need to give fingerprints (biometrics), but a photo is still required.
How to renew online
- Open the ICP Smart Services website or the UAEICP app and sign in (UAE Pass is easiest).
- Choose the Emirates ID renewal / residency service for your child.
- Upload the photo and documents, check the details, and pay - the app shows the total fee before you pay.
- The new card is usually ready within a few working days and delivered by Emirates Post.
You can also go through an Amer centre (Dubai) or an authorised typing centre if you'd rather have help.
Fees and fines
The fee depends on how long the card is valid for, plus service and delivery charges - you'll see the exact total in the app. Late renewal can mean a daily fine, so it's worth starting a month or so before expiry.
